“What the hell is this?”; “Looks so odd” – Carlos Alcaraz & Joao Fonseca fans slam ‘botched’ setup for duo’s upcoming exhibition
Fans of Carlos Alcaraz and Joao Fonseca have expressed disappointment over the setup in Miami for the ATP stars’ exhibition match, which is being staged in a baseball stadium using a makeshift tennis court.
Alcaraz will face Fonseca in Miami on December 8, one of several exhibition events scheduled in the United States during the off-season. However, nearly two weeks before the match, the event had already come under fire from fans.
LoanDepot Park, home of the Miami Marlins baseball team, will host the exhibition match. Given the sheer size of a baseball stadium, staging a tennis event there poses obvious challenges
.To address this, organizers have constructed a makeshift court and added portable stands to bring spectators closer to the action. Images of the setup were shared online on Reddit.
Here are some additional fan reactions to the setup for the Carlos Alcaraz vs. Joao Fonseca exhibition event in Miami.
“Miami has got to be the city that has seen the hardest fall off in tennis 😭 went from an incredibly beautiful campus in Key Biscayne to a parking lot in Miami Gardens and then whatever the hell this is 😂”
Carlos Alcaraz continues to feature in exhibitions despite complaints about the short off-season

Carlos Alcaraz has been openly critical of tennis’s demanding calendar, arguing that the season runs too long and leaves players with too little downtime. So it’s no surprise that his decision to add exhibition matches raised a few eyebrows. However, he insists there’s an important distinction..
“At a tournament, you’ve got to keep your focus, and it’s really physically and mentally demanding for one week and a half. And an exhibition is just one day. You just stay focused, just warm up, just practice not that much for one match,” he told The Associated Press.
Fonseca, meanwhile, was forced to withdraw from the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals due to a late-season injury, yet he is still slated to take part in the exhibition match against Alcaraz.
