Fresh from winning the 2026 Canadian Open, Iga Swiatek made a fast start to her Cincinnati Open campaign by defeating Colombia’s Emiliana Arango 6-3, 6-0.

Swiatek had very little time to recover after claiming the Toronto title against Elena Rybakina on Thursday. Despite the short turnaround, the Polish star produced a commanding performance on Sunday in Cincinnati.

Swiatek Dominates From the Start

Swiatek immediately looked comfortable on court and took control of the match against Arango.

The first set finished 6-3 in Swiatek’s favour, with the former world No. 1 putting constant pressure on her opponent.

Arango struggled to find a way back into the contest as Swiatek continued to dictate rallies and make the most of her opportunities.

Second Set Belongs Completely to Swiatek

The second set was even more one-sided.

Swiatek did not drop a game and completed a 6-0 set to seal the victory in straight sets. The result underlined her strong form after her breakthrough Canadian Open triumph.

The victory also showed Swiatek’s ability to quickly adapt after a demanding tournament in Toronto and maintain her momentum on the hard courts.

Canadian Open Victory Gives Swiatek Confidence

Swiatek arrived in Cincinnati with plenty of confidence after defeating Elena Rybakina 6-2, 6-3 in the Canadian Open final.

The Toronto victory was Swiatek’s first title of the 2026 season and ended an 11-month wait for another tournament title.

It was also her first Canadian Open final, making the achievement an important milestone in her season.

Swiatek’s Focus Turns to Cincinnati

With the opening-round victory secured, Swiatek can now turn her attention to the next stage of the Cincinnati Open.

Her strong performance against Arango keeps her momentum going as she prepares for the final major tournament of the US hard-court swing — the US Open.

Swiatek will be hoping to build on her Canadian Open success and make another deep run in Cincinnati.
