The Los Angeles Lakers pulled off a trade for patrick Beverley in that trade, Talen horton tucker and Stanley Johnson joined the Utah Jazz which means that the lakers roster currently has 13 players under contract and those players are LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Lonnie walker iv, Russell Westbrook, Kendrick Nunn, Damian Jones winning, Gabriel, Thomas Bryant, troy brown, jr Juan Toscano Andersen, austin Rivers and max christie.
And the thing is with the lakers trading for patrick Beverley, what i find interesting is that they have three point guards who i think are all capable of playing quality rotational minutes in Westbrook, Kendrick Nunn and now patrick Beverley and with all the trade rumors surrounding Russell Westbrook this off season. you have to wonder, if a trade is coming for Russell Westbrook being that they just added another point guard.
I mean maybe you could play patrick Beverley at the two he can shoot, the ball pretty well from the three-point line, he’s also a good defender but the size there I’m not sure that they’d want to play him at the two, especially with the rumors of austin Rivers being slotted in as the starter at the shooting guard position for this upcoming season.
So I’m not exactly sure if that’s the route that the lakers want to take now something to note about this trade is that patrick Beverley, he’s going to bring a lot of defense we saw him take the Minnesota timber wolves, past the playing game in this past season, he was able to elevate them to a new level, i mean obviously they had improvements from guys like Anthony Edwards, but he was able to bring that tenacious defense, and overall effort and that helped the timber wolves take the next step as a team and often when you have a team like the lakers especially last season.
Where they had a lot of veteran talent through the grind of a regular season, they kind of just lost that desperation and that factor where you want to play really hard night in and night out because they had so many guys that had been through tons of nba regular seasons. but patrick Beverley is going to be a guy who should be able to bring renewed energy to this lakers roster along with some of their newer younger additions that they made in free agency this off season taking a different direction compared to what they did last off-season going after a lot of veteran talent and with patrick Beverley joining the team.
I think that he will be able to make an immediate impact, and he will be able to help the lakers when it comes to getting wins he’ll be able to do those little things that may not show up in the stat sheet but ultimately are going to help out the team defensively it’s going to help the lakers take another step, and we know that when they won the championship defensively they were a great team so adding in a guy like patrick Beverley who can help them towards getting back to that championship identity is definitely a good idea and i just really overall like this edition of patrick Beverley on to the roster.
