According to Green’s latest episode of the Inside the Danny Green Room podcast, he chose the Cavs because of the team’s roster, which is a better fit than Los Angeles. With the Lakers already making multiple moves to beef up their roster around LeBron James and Anthony Davis, Danny Green felt he would be a better fit in Cleveland.

The inquirers were concerned with what could be done to move the needle and how they could benefit, yet they failed to provide me with enough time and resources to determine if I had a good chance to contribute and if the team was certain to make the playoffs. This sense of urgency means the team is under enormous pressure to win soon, and a lot of that hinges on the good health of LeBron and Anthony Davis over the past few weeks. Taking this risk was a major factor in my decision.

Danny Green’s assessment of the Lakers makes a lot of sense. With Malik Beasley and Jared Vanderbilt signed, along with Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, Troy Brown Jr. and Lonnie Walker IV, the Lakers already have plenty of wings and Green’s playing opportunities aren’t guaranteed. Furthermore, while they struggle to make the playoffs, Cleveland is a definite postseason contender striving to contend in the upper echelons of the Eastern Conference. In fact, Danny Green has been a critical component of the Lakers’ championship-winning campaign in 2020, consistently starting every game. He appeared as a 3-and-D player.
