Carlos Alcaraz gets brutally honest about who will win dreamed-up Wimbledon final between Roger Federer & him
Carlos Alcaraz currently holds the World No. 1 ranking and has already captured six Grand Slam titles at just 22 years old, naturally inviting comparisons to tennis greats — including 20-time major champion Roger Federer.
At his peak, Federer appeared nearly untouchable, showcasing a fluid, effortless playing style that became his trademark. If not for the presence of his two greatest rivals — Novak Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, and Rafael Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam champion — he might well have amassed even more major titles.
Now, ahead of his appearance at the ATP Finals, Alcaraz addressed the growing comparisons to Federer, responding to the question of whether he would stand a chance against a prime Federer in a dream Wimbledon final.
The interview comes as Alcaraz remains firmly in contention for the year-end championship title. After cruising past Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinal, he is set for a blockbuster final against Jannik Sinner on Sunday in Turin.
“Yes, I see similarities between Alcaraz’s game and those of Rafa (Nadal), Novak (Djokovic) and myself,” Federer said in October 2023. “In his forehand, I see a little bit of Rafa’s power and style, and also a little of mine in terms of technique. He also shoots drop shots and uses the slice. He can play behind the line, like Rafa does in defence. He also has defensive qualities that can rival those of Novak.”
Federer’s sentiments have been widely echoed across the tennis world, including by Djokovic, who has also been on the receiving end of several recent losses to the young Spaniard.
