After LeBron James’ injury, the Los Angeles Lakers could be looking to bring in another guard, but I’m going to be talking about the possibility of the Lakers potentially going out and adding Rajon Rondo.
I know that it says in this report that Kemba Walker is a guy who they could be looking at for a potential workout, but if they bring in multiple free agents for a workout, I think that Rajon Rondo should be a part of that as a play-making guard and a ball handler when you look at the current players in free agency. I’m not sure that it’s going to get much better than a guy like Rajon Rondo.
He’s not the best shooter, but he has experience playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. He was a key player in the Lakers’ 2020 championship run, and he was also a part of the team last season before being traded away to Cleveland. He ended up playing some minutes in Cleveland and had some solid games when it came to his play making and some solid three-point shooting games here and there. You can’t expect him to be a guy who’s going to be a 40-point shooter by any means, but he could be a guy who could get assists and set up plays for his teammates.
I think that his chemistry with Anthony Davis could be an underrated factor as to why the Lakers should look at adding him. They need somebody who’s going to unlock Anthony Davis in the lineup, and I’m not sure that Dennis Schroeder is going to be able to do that in D’Angelo Russell’s absence now how long is D’Angelo Russell going to be out because that’s what this report has me wondering, I mean if they’re bringing in Kemba Walker as another ball handler. I know LeBron’s out, and he took care of a lot of ball-handling duties, but you already have guys like D’Angelo Russell.
Dennis Schroeder and Austin Reeves so maybe D’Angelo Russell said to miss more time than we think but regardless if the Lakers are looking for another ball handler I think that Rajon Rondo could project to fit that role a little bit better and also be better defensively than a guy like Kemba Walker could bring some more offensively especially when it comes to his floor spacing abilities, but he’s been pretty inconsistent when it comes to his scoring ever since the injuries and right now he’s currently out of the league he had a stint with the Dallas Mavericks where he did have a big scoring night but overall he’s kind of had games where he’s been inefficient and maybe had a big night here there hasn’t been much consistency and I don’t think with Rajon Rondo you can expect big scoring games by any means but you could expect him to be more of a steady presence and a guy who could create opportunities for his teammates while also being familiar with the Los Angeles Lakers and being around the team being around LeBron and Anthony Davis of course LeBron is injured but maybe some of that previous chemistry with Anthony Davis could help unlock Anthony Davis in the offence and really get him going so that he can lead this Lakers team to more wins as they try to climb up in the standings.
