Novak Djokovic was unable to defend his Australian Open title in 2022 after being barred from competing due to Australia’s vaccination rules at the time. While the controversy left little for the Djokovic family to celebrate, his son Stefan still showed his love for tennis by cheering for Rafael Nadal during the tournament in Melbourne.

“It was not easy for me to watch the Australian Open final. I was neutral; I did not want to cheer for any of the finalists because I badly wanted to be there myself. Still, my family got involved, as my wife cheered for Daniil, and my son for Rafa, jumping around after every point he won, fist-pumping as he does on the court,” the Serb said (via Tennis World USA).

Nadal faced Daniil Medvedev in the final of the 2022 Australian Open, where he appeared headed for a straight-sets defeat before producing one of the most remarkable comebacks in Grand Slam history.

The Spaniard rallied from two sets down to secure a dramatic 2-6, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 victory.Djokovic returned to Melbourne the following year and reclaimed his crown in emphatic fashion, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6(4), 7-6(5) to lift the Australian Open title once again.
