“You play like 5 tournaments a year” – Emma Raducanu under fire from fans for ‘bad’ take on tennis schedule after Carlos Alcaraz & others’ complaints
Emma Raducanu holds a somewhat different view from her fellow US Open mixed doubles partner Carlos Alcaraz, as well as several other ATP and WTA stars—including Iga Swiatek, Jannik Sinner, and fellow British No. 1 Jack Draper—when it comes to scheduling.
According to Raducanu, tennis players shouldn’t be complaining about the schedule, given that they make a very good living from the sport. She pointed out that their situation is far more privileged compared to someone working a regular office job, who constantly has to answer to their boss.
“I don’t necessarily think it’s something to complain about because it’s what we are given,” Raducanu said via The Guardian. “And we are making a great living as well. I mean it’s not all glamorous. There are definitely times when it’s very difficult and we are flagging mentally, physically, everything hurts. But at the same time what are we going to do about it? I am sure there are certain people who go to work and their bosses make them do something, but they have to do it, it’s their job.”
Raducanu’s comments were received negatively by many Reddit users, who believe Carlos Alcaraz and others are justified in speaking out about the demands of the long tennis season.
“(A lot of which is from sponsors and interviews and shit) In fact, i see her most of the time without a racquet in her hand,” one fan posted.

Emma Raducanu asks to set a better example for upcoming generation
Emma Raducanu addressed the frequent complaints made by several tennis stars about the tour schedule, suggesting that there is a more constructive way for them to voice their concerns. She added that doing so would also help set a better example for the younger generation…
“If we put up a front that isn’t complaining, I think that is a better example to the people watching, trying to get into tennis, the younger people,” Raducanu added. “If they see all the top players moaning about the calendar, I don’t think that’s necessarily inspiring to look up to.”
Raducanu is among the few athletes who don’t have much to complain about when it comes to the demanding season and the issue of over-scheduling.
