Mo Bamba is going to be out for at least four weeks with a high left ankle sprain, and with that, the Lakers are in need of some more depth at the center position. DeMarcus Cousins is still a free agent, and with his offensive capabilities, I think the Lakers should look into signing him.
I know that DeMarcus Cousins isn’t the best defender but when you consider the fact that the Los Angeles Lakers have had the number one defensive rating in the NBA since the trade deadline they could probably afford to give up a little bit defensively if they could bring in a guy who’s going to bring more offense to the team and cousins could do exactly that when you look at any player who’s currently in free agency at the center position there’s going to be some area of their game where you think oh maybe they wouldn’t be the perfect fit for the Lakers but that’s usually how mid-season free agency works sometimes you’ll see some really good players end up on the buyout Market but with the situation of the Lakers where they’re trying to work their way up in the standings they aren’t exactly the most desirable destination where they’re currently at but of course they do have aspirations to move up and continue to get better and adding another player to their roster in the absence of Mo Bamba could do exactly that for them.
I think the cousins would fit well for his offensive abilities and his floor spacing he could be a guy who could play next to Anthony Davis and Anthony Davis has been on an absolute tear lately him and cousins had some chemistry from back in New Orleans so maybe they could use that to make it a more quick fit towards the end of the season but if the Lakers are serious about trying to get into a playoff spot they need to use every imaginable Avenue to do that and they have an open roster spot and now you have an injury to a key player at the center position.
So why not go out and sign another player to your roster so that you can have some more adaptable for the playoffs who knows DeMarcus Cousins could be an absolute wild card for this team maybe he could get back some of that spark he had prior to his injuries and put up some big scoring nights we see guys who are former star players who have had some injury issues and things like that end up having some big nights here or there and that could end up propelling the Lakers system wins Ultimately, I just think it makes a lot of sense for the Lakers to look at players for their final roster spot regardless of if it’s DeMarcus Cousins or not.
They should be active in free agency to try and fill this final spot, especially since LeBron James and Mo Bamba are going to be out for extended time as we near the postseason. Hopefully, LeBron James will be able to get back prior to the end of the regular season, but at this point that doesn’t really seem realistic from Mo bamba if LeBron can return at the end of the regular season and they don’t need to rush things because the team’s getting wins that would be ideal signing a player for that 15th roster spot could be a good idea if the Lakers just want some additional depth.
