Five new faces, including Milwaukee Bucks’ star and his brothers, have become part-owners of the MLS team.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brothers Thanasis, Kostas and Alex, along with Nashville Predators standout Filip Forsberg, are now among the ownership group of Major League Soccer club Nashville SC. The team has announced the exciting news.
“We have always had a passion for soccer and this is something my father and I shared throughout my childhood,” Antetokounmpo in a statement. “It’s been a dream of mine to own a soccer team and I’m thrilled to join the Golden Boys. I’m looking forward to GEODIS Park and can’t wait to get to a game soon!”
Jeff Carlisle of ESPN has reported that Bucks star Antetokounmpo is the latest NBA player to join the ranks of MLS ownership. The All-Star joins fellow NBA players Durant (Philadelphia Union) and James Harden (Houston Dynamo), who both acquired 5% stakes in their respective teams in 2020 and 2019.
John Ingram, the principal owner of the MLS team, commented on the new owners, saying, “Soccer is a global sport, and our new owners will once again strengthen our club’s commitment to becoming a global team. Philip and Giannis Antetokounmpo are not just incredible athletes, but also ambassadors for their sports, role models for millions and advocates for their hometowns and beyond. We share a common belief that our teams not only play to the highest standards, but also work to uplift their communities and assist those most in need.”
