Trae young is still on his rookie Max extension, but he could end up requesting a trade after the NBA Playoffs if things don’t go well.
And with that could the Lakers get in the mix that was what we’re going to talk about in this article and I think it would be pretty complicated if they could somehow work at a trade for Trae but there’s been a ton of drama surrounding this Atlanta Hawks team and things with Trae young that haven’t been working out lately they added to Dejounte Murray to play next to him which seemed like a solid fit although they were both guards Dejounte was more defensive minded and if Trae could play off the ball more it seemed like things would work out but things haven’t worked out too well so far.
Trae Young’s shooting splits have suffered this year alongside Dejounte now if the Lakers realistically wanted to add Trae young I think they’d likely have to trade Anthony Davis but the Lakers wouldn’t want to do that and that’s where I came up with a really complicated.
And I think unrealistic scenario that we’re going to talk about in this article but I also had another idea that we’ll talk about a little bit later that I think could be more realistic and could actually work out for the Lakers now this is a big four team trade involving Tobias Harris and Trae young going to the Lakers the Hawks get a ton of future draft Capital the Lakers straight away Lonnie Walker IV, Austin Rivers and Kendrick Nunn they trade away Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley but the thing about this trade scenario is that if this trade request did actually happen it seems like it’d be after the playoffs and that actually gives the Lakers some more wiggle rooms some more room to work because after the playoffs they would have cap space available.
And also they would be able to trade away their pick in the 2023 NBA draft which means that they would have a trade package of three future first-round picks available to trade their 2027 and 2029 picks and a 2023 first-round pick and when you look at the issues of Trey Young’s fit alongside Dejounte Murray and the fact that he struggled to play off the ball.
Maybe the Los Angeles Lakers would have a chance to add Trey considering the value of those 2027 and 2029 picks but being that he is such a young player who has shown such high potential I feel like there would probably be some team out there willing to make a significantly better offer.
so when you look at that big four team trade yeah the Hawks would be getting a lot of picks but that would be assuming a trade goes down this season and really without trading Anthony Davis I’m not sure that the Lakers could get this done but I’d seen people talking about oh what if the Lakers somehow swung a trade for Trae young because when there’s a star in trade rumors usually the Lakers are in the mix there’s been rumored interest in guys like KD Bradley Beal and Damian Lillard from the Lakers when really it seems like it’d be very complicated for LA to land those guys unless one of them went out and said I only want to go to Lakers.
