Both Brunson and Gilgeous-Alexander operate as modern NBA lead guards who frequently control the offense through pick-and-roll actions. They are capable of creating their own shots, drawing fouls and setting up teammates.
However, Kellerman argued that the biggest difference can appear when a defense successfully disrupts their normal offensive rhythm.
He suggested that Brunson has shown a strong ability to study what opposing teams are doing and make adjustments during a series. Even after difficult starts or inefficient performances, Brunson has demonstrated the ability to change his approach and help bring his team back into games.

When opponents attempt to take away his preferred options, Brunson has often found different ways to attack. Whether that means changing his pace, creating opportunities for teammates or finding a new scoring angle, his ability to process the game quickly has become one of his defining traits.
This does not mean Gilgeous-Alexander lacks intelligence or adaptability. The Oklahoma City star remains one of the NBA’s most dominant offensive players and has consistently delivered elite production.
Kellerman’s argument is instead focused on which player may be better equipped to make adjustments when facing difficult defensive schemes in high-pressure situations.
SGA Holds the Statistical Advantage
Based on the numbers, Gilgeous-Alexander currently has the advantage.
The Thunder superstar is averaging 31.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game while shooting 55.3% from the field. His scoring output places him among the NBA’s top offensive performers.
Brunson, meanwhile, is averaging 26.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game while shooting 46.7% from the floor.
Both players have accumulated eight years of professional experience, so the difference between them cannot simply be explained by experience.
Instead, Kellerman believes Brunson’s basketball IQ and ability to make in-game adjustments give the Knicks star a unique advantage.
