“What happened to real journalism?”; “This is weird” – Carlos Alcaraz & Jannik Sinner fans in disbelief over bizarre ‘sleeping’ question at ATP Finals

At the ongoing 2025 ATP Finals, Carlos Alcaraz was unexpectedly asked whether he had ever dreamed about rival Jannik Sinner in his sleep. The Spaniard laughed off the unusual question and said he had not. However, the moment sparked backlash among fans of both the Italian and the Spaniard, who criticized the inappropriate nature of the query directed at the reigning World No. 1.

Spanish media outlet ABC recently conducted an in-depth interview with Carlos Alcaraz in Turin, Italy, the host city of the ATP Finals. It was during this interview that the Spaniard was asked the bizarre question. A video of the exchange — including the question and Alcaraz’s reaction — later surfaced on X (formerly Twitter).

It didn’t take long for tennis fans to question why journalists pose such enquiries, with many lamenting the current state of tennis journalism.

“Bro wtf is this what even happened to real journalism???? free both of them and us like ENOUGHHHH,” one fan wrote.

“For how long are they gonna put them through this humiliation ritual this is getting weird,” commented another.

“LMFAO why would they ask him that, what is going on with the press for the atp finals 😭😭😭 it’s been like “okay for this next challenge we’re gonna have you confess your love for each other on camera and then in press I’ll ask if you fantasize about being together romantically”,” another fan chimed in.

It’s not often that tennis’s biggest rivals sit down together for an interview, but that was exactly the case ahead of the on-court action at the 2025 ATP Finals. CNN brought Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner together for a joint conversation in which the friendly rivals reflected on their bond and discussed the significance of their era-defining rivalry.

“It’s both good and bad, but we’re always happy to see each other. When we train together or run into each other in the locker room, it’s fantastic. Getting to know each other more and more feels natural — we talk about family, life, personal things.”

Both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have booked their places in the semifinals of the ATP Finals. Alcaraz swept all three of his Round Robin matches — defeating Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, and Lorenzo Musetti — while Sinner secured wins in his first two matches against Félix Auger-Aliassime and Alexander Zverev. His third group-stage match, against Ben Shelton, is scheduled for Friday, November 14.

It’s highly possible that the Spaniard and the Italian will meet in yet another major final. Alcaraz currently leads their head-to-head rivalry 10–5.
